Kanpur(Agencies): In a dramatic turn
of events, Uttar Pradesh's most wanted gangster Vikas Dubey, who was on
Thursday apprehended at Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain, was on Friday killed in an
encounter with STF when he tried to flee from the police custody, Inspector
General of police (IG) Mohit Agarwal and
SSP Dinesh P confirmed.
Police here said that the incident occurred at Bhauti police
station on the National Highway 2 when Vikas was being brought by STF from
Ujjjain. Two STF sleuths were also injured in the encounter which occurred at
around 0630 hours when the vehicle in which they were travelling from Ujjain
overturned due to heavy rains .
ADG Kanpur Jai Narain Singh said that Vikas was killed in
the encounter when he tried to flee after snatching fire arms from security
personnel, however, he did not furnish the details and said that it will be
disclosed soon. The encounter took place 25 kilometres away from the Kanpur
toll Plaza.
In the encounter, Vikas was shot twice near the chest and
waist. The gangster was then critically injured and taken to hospital where he
was declared brought dead.
On the spot a service pistol was lying which was reported
to have been snatched from the police and was fired on them by the criminal.
UP govt had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh on Vikas
after he and his accomplices killed 8 policemen in Bikru village on July 2.
Surprisingly, 5 of the accomplice of Vikas have been already killed in police
encounter so far and he was the sixth. Yesterday too, one of the Vikas
accomplice Prabhat Mishra was gunned down in same fashion.
