Guwahati: Expressing
displeasure, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Monday remarked that official
replies should be filed and submitted before the Court first before it is sent
to media houses and journalists. The Bench was hearing a batch of petitions
seeking lifting of the ban on mining and export of iron ore in Karnataka.
"Please submit the reply
in court first and then in media. My PRO tells me this reply appeared in a
media yesterday itself,” CJI told Additional Solicitor General (ASG) KM Nataraj
on a reply from the Union Ministry of Steel. "It shall not happen from our
end," the ASG replied.
CJI Ramana was a journalist
himself before practicing law, and had earlier remarked that there are very few
investigative reports done by the Indian media at present.
"As a person whose first job was of a journalist, I am taking the liberty to share a few thoughts on present day media. The concept of investigative journalism is unfortunately vanishing from the media canvas. It is true at least in the Indian context," he said earlier. (Agencies)
