Cong to launch ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on Oct 2

Udaipur/New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday announced that it would launch a nationwide ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Kanyakumari to Kashmir on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, this year. Party president Sonia Gandhi, former chief Rahul Gandhi besides all the senior leaders will take part in the yatra to give a fresh lease of life to the party.

The Grand Old Party which concluded its three-day ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur on Sunday also announced wide-ranging organisational reforms to make the party battle-ready for the next round of Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

The party stressed on wider representation to those under 50 years of age and enforcing ‘one person, one post’ and ‘one family, one ticket’ rules with riders. In its Udaipur Declaration adopted after rigorous deliberations at the ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’, the Congress also decided to set up three new departments: Public insight, election management and national training.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi announced that a task force would be set up to initiate organisational reforms.

Rahul stepped up his attack on the Narendra Modi Government, urging the party members to sweat it out to prevent further damage to the nation from the divisive nature of the incumbent regime and the ideology of the RSS.

Rahul said he was ready to undertake the pad yatra (foot march) and urged the partymen to knock on every door of the country where they will find a Congress connect.

“I have no qualms in admitting that we have lost the connection to the grassroots but neither have we lost hope nor have the people of this country who are fed up with the existing divisive kind of regime. We will sweat it out and I believe every Congress leader and worker believes in the same. I am with you in every fight to resurrect the party and bring the nation back on the path of development and peace for which the Congress is known ever since it fought for Independence,” Rahul said amidst a huge round of applause from the gathering.
