Woman gangraped in UP’s Shahjahanpur

Lucknow: A 30-year-old woman was gangraped by five men who also recorded the act and made the video viral in Shahjahanpur, police said on Sunday.

The woman, in her complaint, alleged that on April 22, five men dragged her into a hut outside her house and took turns to rape her.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar said that an FIR of gang rape was registered on Saturday based on the complaint of the woman, a resident of a village in Madanapur police station area, and a probe into the matter was on. The accused, the woman alleged, also filmed the act and made the video viral a week after the incident. The accused are absconding and attempts are on to nab them, the ASP said.

Meanwhile in a separate incident in Bareilly, a 19-year-old jilted lover shot himself dead after killing another man and injuring his family members, police said on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent of Police in Bareilly Dinesh Prabhu said as per the preliminary investigation, it was a case of a failed love affair.

According to police, Rinku Gangwar, a resident of Bareilly district, was allegedly in a relationship with Rachna Gangwar (22), but her parents had fixed her marriage with another person.

This infuriated Rinku, who barged into Rachna's house in Sirsa village on Saturday morning, and attacked her and her mother Maya Devi (50) with a sharp-edged weapon.

When Rachna's brother Ravindrapal (28) intervened, Rinku allegedly shot him dead. He then ran away from their house and fired at himself, some 20 metres away. He died on the spot.

Rachna and Maya were admitted to hospital. (Agencies)
