Principal Secretary reviews progress on Changthang Development Package

 


Leh: The development of border villages has been a priority for the Ladakh administration. In this regard, the special Changthang Development Package of Rs 245 crore had been announced for the upliftment of the region in the area of education, telecom, road connectivity, and agriculture, among others.

The Principal Secretary, Revenue and Planning, UT Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting to take stock of the progress of various projects. The Secretary of Rural Development Department, Saugat Biswas apprised the Principal Secretary that works on the construction of the link road from Gangchenmo to Hemya was in progress. Also, work on the construction of a community hall at Mahey Kotsa had started.

The Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Ravinder Kumar apprised the Principal Secretary that foundation work on fodder banks at Nyoma and Durbuk to provide high-quality feed for the livestock of the nomads, especially during the dry season was in progress. He said that work on strengthening veterinary hospitals at Nyoma and Durbuk was in progress too. Further, he informed that the construction work on nomadic museums at Nyoma and Tangste was going on.

Director, School Education, Dr. Safdar Ali informed the Principal Secretary that works on strengthening three hostels was going on. Also, construction work on solar rooms for 15 schools was in progress.

The Principal Secretary, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, directed the Agriculture Department to ensure the distribution of solar-operated sheep shearing machines in the Changthang region. He also asked the department to ensure the distribution of solar-powered milk churners for every household, as it is convenient and also saves time.

The meeting was attended by Saugat Biswas, Administrative Secretary, Rural Development Department; Ravinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary, Agriculture/Horticulture/ Animal, and Sheep Husbandry; Dr. Safdar Ali, Director, School Education; Dr. Motup Dorje, Director of Health Services; Dr. Mohd. Raza, Director of Animal Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries; Dr. Tondup Namgail, Assistant Director, Animal Sheep Husbandry; Sh. Bhatti, Director Planning PD & MD; Sh. Konchok, Deputy Director Planning PD & MD; Dr. Stanzin Thakchos, Officer on Special Duty to Administrative Secretary, Agriculture Department, and other officials of the Agriculture department.
