JAMMU, Dec. 26: In a ceremonial flag-off, President Harbhajan Singh of the J&K Weightlifting Association bid farewell to a contingent of seven players and four officials selected based on their outstanding performance. The team is set to participate in the Youth, Junior, and Senior National Weightlifting Championship, scheduled to take place in Itanagar from December 28, 2023, to January 8, 2024.
Organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Weightlifting Association under the auspices of the Weightlifting Federation of India, these championships provide a platform for the nation's budding youth to showcase their talents in the realm of weightlifting.
President Harbhajan Singh extended his congratulations to the selected participants, expressing hope that the young athletes would strive to achieve their best performances and secure a place on the victory podium. Emphasizing the continuous support from the sports council, he anticipated favorable results for UT J&K.
Addressing the athletes, Singh remarked, "After competing at the district and UT J&K levels, you now have the honor of representing the UT on the national stage. Seize this opportunity by putting in your utmost effort in both snatch and Clean & Jerk to make the most of this experience. The entire association wishes you the best, and we pray for your resounding success."
Youdhvir Singh, the General Secretary of the J&K Weightlifting Association, reflected on the broader significance of sports as a learning experience. "Of all those who take up sports, only a few may become champions, but undoubtedly, all will emerge as winners. The principles of sports can provide great strength during tough times."
The team comprises Pranshant Sharma, Nirvhay Singh, Namastedeep Singh, Satwik Luthra, Misem Choudhary, Kaushik Sharma, and Shoran James. They will be accompanied by officials Sh. Dhanraj Singh Salathia, Akash Virthy, Bharti Kumari, and Dhayal Singh.
