JAMMU: Imtiyaz Latief Itoo of Banihal has been unanimously elected as the President of District Mountaineering Association, Ramban in an election meeting held at Banihal.
Aarif Muzzafar, an experienced and a popular trekker was elected as general secretary of the Association, a handout issued here today informed.
Whereas Ghulam Rasool Padder was unanimously elected as vice president, Mukhtar Ahmad and Danish Iqbal, both avid trekkers were elected as joint secretary and treasurer of the district association respectively.
Seven members of the Executive body, elected unanimously in the same meeting, included Umair Rather, Mohd Asaf, Naveed Ahmad, Murfat Ara, Rehina Iqbal, Bazla Mushtaq and Touseef Ahmad.
Whereas Syed Abdul Mohsin, joint secretary (Kashmir) of Mountaineering Association of J&K, was the observer, Dilsad Ahmad, an adventure lover, was the returning officer of the election.
Aarif Muzzafar, the newly elected general secretary, who is passionately involved in organising trekking activities for the young children, while expressing his gratitude to the members for the trust they had imposed in him, said that the purpose of forming an Association is to coordinate the adventure activities conducted by various clubs and individuals of the district.
He (Aarif) announced that very soon a meeting of the Association shall be held to devise ways and means to give more thrust to adventure activities especially trekking to make trekking a mass movement in Ramban district and to produce more quality mountaineers and champion sport climbers.
