JAMMU: Shivani Charak, the prolific medal winner of J&K in sport climbing, opened her account with a Gold medal in Lead climbing and Bouldering (combined) in the ongoing 4th Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship being organised by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation at TSAF Sport Climbing Training Centre, Bistupur, Jamshedpur.
“In Lead climbing Shivani secured the first rank and she could win the second place only in Bouldering. However, as she was far ahead of other climbers in combined ranking of Lead climbing and bouldering she won the Gold medal and a cash prize of Rs. 20000,” informed senior vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK), Ram Khajuria.
Preliminary rounds in Speed climbing were in progress and Shivani was expected to be among the medalists in Speed climbing also.
Competition in speed relay in which the Relay team consists of two male and one female climber shall be conducted tomorrow.
It may be mentioned here that Tata Steel Championship is India’s biggest competition which carriage a total prize money of Rs. 6.50 lakhs. The championship is also unique as competitions are held in Lead and Bouldering (combined) and also in Speed Relay (Team).
