NEW DELHI: In the national Capital’s Tihar jail, 15 inmates received self-inflicted injuries inside the premises. The incident took place on Wednesday.
According to a senior prison official, a total of 15 inmates got self-inflicted injuries.
"Four were sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for the treatment and they were later returned to prison. The 11 others were given first aid in the jail,” said the senior prison official adding that a legal action will be taken against all the inmates involved as per jail manual.
Earlier, On September 27, 2021, a similar incident was reported at the Delhi’s Mandoli prison, where two inmates, Danish and Anish, wanted to go out of their ward without any reason but they were subsequently stopped by the officials as there was an existing gang rivalry between inmates.
Agitated over not being able to go out of their ward, the duo started causing harm to themselves and also asked others to do the same. The other inmates too then started injuring themselves by banging their heads on the walls and stabbing each other following which prison officials used a mild force to control the situation.
