Secy Tourism chairs upcoming fest, progress on Regulation of Adventure Sports meet

 


Leh: Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan chaired a meeting to discuss Scheduling and Coordination of Festivals/Programmes in coming months and the progress on Regulation of Adventure Sports in Ladakh, at UT Secretariat today. 

Major tourism and cultural activities proposed to be held in the year 2022-23, viz. Ladakh Winter Conclave, Ladakh Literature Festival, Ladakh Nomadic Festival, Ladakh Kharnak Festival, Ladakh Festival, Ladakh Zanskar Festival, Iconic event at Leh Palace, Ladakh dPal nagam Duston, Losar Festival, Mamani Festival, Sand Mandal Festival, Ladakh Children Theatre Festival, Revival of Ladakhi Losar tradition in different villages, Ladakh Cultural Conference, Balti Spang-gang Festival, Purig-pe rGaston, National Sculptors/ Painting Camps, Ladakh Children Dance Competition, On spot Music/Artists Camps, Seminars/conference and workshops/trainings, etc. were discussed during the meeting. 

The Secretary instructed the officers concerned to send the tentative calendar of events to be held during the ensuing months along with financial implications within a week’s time for approval.

Secretary, Tourism and Culture emphasised the need for promotion of agro-tourism, including the Apricot and Buckwheat Festival; the revival of Mamani Festival in Bogdang; the promotion of Mandala as sand art, etc. He suggested to organise festivals at Leh, Kargil and Zanskar with the same theme Ladakh Festival Leh, Ladakh Festival Kargil, Ladakh Festival Zanskar.

The Secretary, Tourism and Culture stressed on the joint and coordinated organization of the festivals/events by the Tourism and Culture departments. 

He also suggested prioritising safety norms and regulations for adventure sports such as Bungee jumping and also the promotion of mountaineering activities in Ladakh.
