SRINAGAR, Sept 07: Gandhi Memorial College bagged men’s overall champioinship trophy in the annual inter-college (men and women) Judo meet which was organised by Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir (KU) on the campus, here today.
Government Degree College Tral remained overall runners-up considering their medal tally. Similarly, in women section, Government Degree College Tral lifted the overall trophy while over second place went to Government Women College Zakura.
Around 150 judokas from KU and its affiliated colleges took part in the event across different weight categories. The closing function was presided over by Registrar of the KU, Dr Nasir Ahmad Mir, who congratulated the medal winners. He conveyed the message of Vice Chancellor of KU, “winning and losing is not important, it is the participation which matters. The sports needs utmost dedication and team work”.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Coordinator, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Dr Nadeem Ahmad Dar welcomed the distinguished guests and all officials from different colleges and other departments of University. He apprised the audience about the ongoing sports activities within the campus and assured more participation of students in upcoming events and expressed his optimism for better performance in upcoming All India/North Zone Inter University Championships. He expressed his gratitude to Chief Proctor, Incharge Health centre, Media cell of KU for their support and cooperation.
