Jammu: An ace and prominent fencer of J&K UT Miss Shreya Gupta with her swashbuckling performance secured Gold in the ongoing 31st National junior fencing championships (U-20) being held at Raipur, Chhattisgarh w.e.f 31st Dec. 2023 to 3rd January 2024. By overcoming stiff competition from her opponents, Shreya Gupta achieved the distinction of winning her third Junior national title. In the medal bout, Shreya defeated Nitika of Haryana convincingly by score of 15-9 whereas as in semi-finals, she defeated Akhiri of Haryana by 15-13 in a nail-biting finish.
The final between Shreya and Ritu of Gujrat was a one-sided affair which was won by Shreya with score 15-3. With Shreya’s Gold, J&K UT clinched first medal in this junior national championship and it is her 16th National Gold in her kitty.
The fencing fraternity of J&K UT especially international senior players and referee Rashid Ahmed Choudhary has lauded the exceptional performance of Shreya and said it will boost the morale of young and upcoming fencers Meanwhile, Secretary J&K Sports council, Mrs Nuzhat Gull congratulated Shreya Gupta and complimented her sports council coach ShShotulal Sharma for this marvellous feat and said Sports Council is always there to support and help hardworking Sportspersons who are bringing laurels for country and J&K UT. She added LG administration is already in process of providing sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of JK UT for taking sports to greater heights.
