POONCH: An exhibition match between Sham Lal Hockey Club and Khelo India Hockey Centre Poonch was played in the memory of Sham Lal Sharma, one of the top Hockey coaches of J&K on his 6th Death Anniversary at Synthetic Hockey Astroturf Poonch, here today.
Vishal deep Chandan, Deputy Regustrar Cooperative Society Poonch was the chief guest, who witnessed the match and later presented sports suits and hockey stick covers and certificates to the national level participants on behalf of Sham Lal Hockey Club Poonch.
Speaking to the team players and other distinguished gathering, the chief guest lavished praise on Sham Lal for his dedication and contribution in taking the game of hockey to new heights, especially among women.
He mentioned that due to selfless efforts of Sham Lal Poonch hockey has earned a name in J&K and at national level.
Narinder Singh Pardhan (DGPC), Mohd Qasim (DYSSO Poonch) and Nirdosh Kumar, Incharge Sports Stadium Poonch were the guests of honour.
Pertinent to mention here that about 50 players of Sham Lal Hockey Club Poonch, mostly the trainees of KI Hockey Centre Poonch represented at National Hockey Tournaments in different age group in the year 2023-2024
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Narinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, Rajinder Songh (ZPEO's), Narjeet Singh Retd ZPEO, Gurcharan Singh, Nanak Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Jasbir Singh, Kewal Krishan, Rajinder Singh Toofan, Parvinder Singh (Pamma), Sanjay Misri, Naresh Kumar, Gurmeet Singh (Happy), Sarla Devi and Ruchika Sharma, Harmik Singh and Sunil Raina.
His family members Vimla Devi (wife), Kamli Devi (Sister), Dr Busbishan Kumar, Mukesh Kumar (sons), Vijay Kumar, Pankaj Sharma and Vishal (nephews), Dr Sampada and Pratibha Ranyal (Daughters- in-Law) also his grandsons and granddaughter were present.
Later, candle lighting ceremony was held at Sports Stadium Poonch which was attended by large gathering.
The event, which was organised by Sham Lal Hockey Club Poonch and Power House Club, technically supervised by Narjeet Singh and Mukesh Kumar.
